Homemade Sourdough Bread

Connor has been back at it in the kitchen folks. Well technically he has been at this for a couple weeks now since it’s sourdough but semantics right?

For anyone who has not made sourdough at home before sourdough is a lot more complicated to make than pretty much any other type of bread due to it needing what is called a starter. A starter is basically yeast and scour that has been allowed to sit out and “grow” for at least a couple of weeks before being used to make the bread. Connor has been “feeding” and “growing” this starter since before Christmas and just made his first batch of bread with it just the other day.

The longer you let a starter grow before using it the better the starter will taste! Connor said that the bread was good but that the started doesn’t have as much flavor as he would like so he is going to continue feeding it and let it grow for longer. Did you know that there are some sourdough starters that are over a hundred years old?? As long as you feed them at least every couple of days they will continue to grow!!

We will update you guys on how it is going the next time he makes some! I am curious to try eating his homemade sourdough myself as I have been hearing lately that some gluten intolerant people can handle sourdough! If I get the courage to try it we will also update you guys on how I do with it!

Have you ever tried making sourdough at home before? I know it was a popular hobby during the pandemic for some people. If you have tell us how it went! Did you enjoy it?

The yummy sourdough roll that Connor made.
